The descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.

drDr. Kris Volcheck, D.D.S., M.B.A. Dental Director, Central Arizona ShelterServices (CASS) Dental Clinic for the Homeless, Phoenix.

After selling his private dental practice, Dr. Volcheck began searching for a new, more fulfilling career. Dr. Volcheck volunteered to deliver food to homeless people, and worked as a case manager at the Central Arizona Shelter Services. Here he witnessed the extensive dental needs of this community and the dire social costs of poor oral health. Dr. Volcheck established the CASS Dental Clinic for the Homeless to provide comprehensive oral health services to this underserved population. Recently, Dr. Volcheck began working with other community leaders to launch school-based dental clinics for impoverished students in four elementary schools in south Phoenix, providing preventive care as well as comprehensive restorative treatments.

 

Nettie ChunnAnnette Chunn - Director of Dental Operations
Annette has been at the clinic since 2006. She started as a dental assisting intern and was hired on in the beginning of 2007. After caring for a family member with Dementia she really wanted to get into a career in which caring for people was part of her job. Annette is currently a student at Rio Salado finishing up her college classes, so that she can apply for her Certified Dental Assisting License. In her spare time Annette loves to ride motorcycles and see the county side.


Brian Mortenson - Front Office Coordinator
Brian graduated in December 2010 from the University of Arizona with a degree in Biology and Spanish.  He started volunteering at CASS shortly after finishing his undergraduate degree and was amazed by the wonderful service that was provided.  Brian joined the CASS team in May 2011 as the front office coordinator and loves working in such a great and rewarding environment.

 

 

Chris Chunn - Dental Assistant
Chris is usually the first person you'll meet at the CASS Dental Clinic.  He enjoys the dental clinic, and admits that what we do here is wonderful. Until he started working here he did not realize that such a clinic existed. Chris has always wanted a career in the community service area. He is in the process of completing all the certification necessary to become a full time brush firefighter. He spent this last fire season fighting brush fires all over the state.

 

Ting Ting Baumgardner - Dental Assistant  1
Ting Ting, also know as Tina, has been a dental assistant at CASS Dental Clinic for over 2 years. She loves to see patients leave CASS with a beautiful smile because their teeth are healthy and happy!

 

 

 

1Robert Johnson - Dental Assistant
Attending ASU for his Bachelors Degree and his required classes needed to attend Dental School. Robert came to us as one of our dedicated volunteers and has been working at the clinic since 2007. His experience comes from 3 years of dental assisting at a prominent pediatric clinic in town. Because of Roberts' experience in pediatric dentistry, he is a great asset to our children's clinic. He is also looking to apply for Dental School soon.


Charles Uzzel - Dental Assistant
Charles graduated Rio Salado Dental Assisting School.  He started here as an intern and was later hired as an employee.  Charles' ultimate goal is to become a dentist.  His hobbies include fishing and writing poetry.  "I like being part of a group that helps people get back on their feet."

1Ariel Collins - Children's Clinic Coordinator
Ariel graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina with a BA in Anthropology. She came to the CASS Dental Clinic as a member of Public Allies, an AmeriCorps program housed under the Lodestar Center for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Innovation at Arizona State University. Ariel completed her term of service with AmeriCorps, and continues to work at the Dental Clinic as the Children's Clinic Coordinator. Ariel currently attends ASU for her graduate degree in Justice Studies.

 

1Harold Williams - Certified Lab Technician
Harold has been the owner of Dentures by Williams for 30 years. He was one of the original dental lab volunteers for the CASS Dental Clinic when it opened in 2001.

Cindy Rossey - Co-Founder, Retired
Cindy Rossey founded the dental clinic along with Dr. Volcheck. She started working for CASS in 2000. She organized the set up of the original dental trailer. In the beginning, Cindy had to do virtually every job in the clinic. She acted as dental assistant, front office manager, administrator and a part-time bouncer. Cindy oversaw the transformation of the clinic from the trailer to the new 8 chair clinic in 2005. In 2007, Cindy retired from CASS. Dr Volcheck, the staff, the volunteers and the homeless, all greatly feel the absence of Cindy Rossey, CDA.
