How to Volunteer
Do Good! ... But Just a Little.
One of the keys to our success has been to follow the above mantra. Everyone wants to do something to help their community. We make sure that you do just the right amount of volunteering to fit your schedule. We never want you to do too much. A lot of people, doing just a little bit, makes a huge difference in helping the homeless become ex-homeless.

Dental Labs
Dental Labs are at the core of our ability to treat the homeless in a comprehensive manner. There are over 100 labs working with the clinic. Donations from these labs give the dentists the needed products to restore the smiles of homeless patients. Most of the crown and bridge, and denture cases go to ex-homeless or presently homeless patients. These clients are trying to obtain employment or need a better smile to receive a promotion at their current employer.
Frequency of donation is determined by each individual lab. This ensures that all of the labs are helping the homeless when it fits best into their schedule. Some of our labs donate once a year. Some of our labs donate once a month. Our goal is to have everybody contribute the amount of work that they are comfortable donating. If your dental lab would like to donate services to the clinic, please contact our Director of Dental Operations Annette Chunn at achunn@cass-az.org.
Dentists and Hygienists
We make it as simple as possible to volunteer. Some dentists and hygienists volunteer once a month. Some volunteer once every six months. Others volunteer when time permits. It is completely up to the volunteer.
Our patients already have their x-rays, exams, and treatment plans completed. We do all aspects of dentistry on our patients. You get to choose the facet of dentistry that you enjoy doing: hygiene, fillings, crown and bridge, root canals, cosmetics, or implants. When you are scheduled to volunteer, patients needing those services will be scheduled during that time.
You will need current malpractice insurance and an Arizona Dental License to treat the homeless at the clinic.
If you are a dentist or hygienist who would like to volunteer at the clinic, please contact our Director of Dental Operations Annette Chunn at achunn@cass-az.org.
Retired and Out-of State Dentists
If you are licensed in another state in the union, you can still volunteer at the clinic. A special license is available from the State of Arizona which allows you to work only at a volunteer clinic. We also have malpractice insurance that allows our out-of-state volunteers to work at the clinic.
If you are a dentist with an out-of-state license who would like to volunteer at the clinic, please contact our Director of Dental Operations Annette Chunn at achunn@cass-az.org.
Dental Assistants
We rely on the help of dental assistants from all around the Valley. If you are a dental assistant and are interested in giving back to the community, we would love to have you at CASS. Dental assistants play an invaluable role taking x-rays, sterilizing and sitting chairside. If you are interested in volunteering as a dental assistant, please fill out and submit the volunteer application below.
Pre-Dental Student Volunteers
Each semester, we accept applications from pre-dental students interested in volunteering. Our pre-dental student volunteers spend 2-3 years on average with us before applying to dental school. In that time, they learn valuable skills that can be used throughout a career in dentistry. If you are a pre-dental student interested in volunteering, please fill out and submit the volunteer application below.
Community Volunteers
Many of our most innovative ideas have come from volunteers who have no dental background. These volunteers came to the clinic with some fresh ideas that we were able to utilize to help our homeless patients.
If you are interested in working at the front desk, administrative work, Public Relations work, or volunteering a new service, please fill out and submit the volunteer application below.
