Within this clinic we house the following programs: Children's Dental Clinic Program, Homeless Veteran's Dental Program, CASS School of Dental Assisting, and the Children's Dental Clinic serving the Murphy Community.
Volunteers
The clinic started seeing patients on January 1, 2001. At that time, we had 20 volunteer dentists, 20 dental labs, 20 hygienists, and 5 assistants. Since then, the clinic has grown to hundreds of volunteers. It is now one of the largest volunteer dental clinics in the country that serves the homeless population. Dental professionals and specialists in every area of dentistry volunteer at the clinic. Although we number in the hundreds now, the needs of the homeless are immense. We will never have enough volunteers to meet the oral health needs of this population. Volunteers started the clinic and continue to be at the core of its success and operation. If you are interested in volunteering, please check out our website at www.cassdentalclinic.org.
Students
Dental student doctors, student hygienists and dental assistants working on the homeless provide our clients important dental services.
The following schools provide students for internships and rotations:
Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health students find the CASS Dental Clinic their home in their fourth year as dental students. The students are under the direct supervision of CASS's adjunct faculty.
Rio Salado School of Dental Hygiene students and their faculty, as well as Phoenix College Dental Hygiene students and faculty, provide the majority of the cleanings and oral hygiene instruction for our patients.
Rio Salado Dental Assisting School and Phoenix College Dental Assisting students assist the volunteer dentists and students at chairside.
We are grateful for our students and faculty for the many hours they provide for the clinic!
Comprehensive Care
The Comprehensive Care provided at the clinic includes cleanings, root canals, dentures and partials, crowns and bridges, fillings, extractions, veneers, cosmetics, implants, and plastic surgery. These services would not be possible without the many volunteer dental labs, dentists, hygienists, assistants and the dental students who provide their services to the homeless.
Since the clinic opened in 2001, our volunteers and students have donated many millions of dollars worth of comprehensive care services. Please visit www.cassdentalclinic.org if you would like more information on how to become a volunteer.
